Solemnly-sounding bells invited people throughout Lithuania on the 16th of February to commemorate the hundredth anniversary — the Day of Restoration of Lithuania’s Independence. A spectacular interactive installation “Bell of the Century” arose on this special occasion in the Vilnius Cathedral Square. Up until 11th, March, Vilnius invites Lithuanians from all around the world, as well as Lithuania’s friends to personally congratulate Lithuania with the centennial of the restored State and to take a picture in the “Bell of the Century”.
The symbol of the modern Lithuania – an interactive “Bell of the Century” in the Cathedral Square is a colorful two tons weighting, bell shaped LED screen of modern technologies, in which unique frames relating to the Restoration of Lithuania’s Independence are projected, as well as portraits of the signatories of the Independence Act, pictures of faces of Lithuanian citizens and guests of today reflect the history of the Republic of Lithuania, takes you away to the memories of important events of the country and brings together the past and the future that we are all creating today.
Vilnius invites all Vilnius residents and guests of the city, and all Lithuanians from all over the world to take advantage of the unique opportunity to personally congratulate Lithuania and to contribute to the movement of the 100th anniversary of the Restoration of Lithuania’s Independence by taking a picture in the “Bell of the Century”. All you have to do is come to the Cathedral Square from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on business days, or from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends and enter a specially equipped photocabine located next to the Bell Tower, take a photo and leave your wish or thanks to Lithuania, rejoice and say “AČIŪ” (eng. thank you) to everyone who has contributed to the success of Lithuania, or express gratitude to your loved one and in this way, to become the heroes of the centenary celebration.
Those who do not have the opportunity to come to Vilnius Cathedral Square (including Lithuanians and Lithuanian friends all over the world), we invite you to join the movement “AČIŪ” (eng. thank you) by sending electronic postcards and sharing them with your friends, acquaintances and people who are important to you (see: http://www.lietuva.lt/100/lt/pazink#discover_1). They will also (up to 11th, March) become a part of the centenary faces on the Bell of the Century collage.
At the end of the project, all the information shown in the installation of the “Bell of the Century” will be recorded on the modern media and as the present day archive of the faces of the Nation and the gift of the Lithuanian citizens and guests who have been celebrating the centenary of the Restoration of the Republic of Lithuania, will remain for future generations. The project is partially financed by the Vilnius City Municipality, the Lithuanian Culture Council and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
