Following the success of last year’s project to name the best three dozen restaurants in Lithuania, the 30 Best Restaurants projects takes off again this year. This morning, a shortlist of 60 restaurants was announced at Stebuklai, the restaurant recognised as Lithuania’s best last year. Of these shortlisted candidates, 30 winners will be chosen for the 2017 edition of the project. It is worth noting that 22 of the shortlisted candidates are new to the project for 2017.
“Like last year, the Council of Good Food Academy compiled the working list of restaurants for the 2017 competition. The Council includes representatives of the Lithuanian Hotel and Restaurant Association, the Lithuanian Restaurant Chefs and Confectioners Association, the Lithuanian Sommelier Association, and the magazine “Geras Skonis”. Further, restaurants will be evaluated and the best thirty will be selected from the shortlist by the members of Good Food Academy, now there are more than a hundred of them,” Linas Petrukaitis, the founder of the Academy, briefly introduced the evaluators of restaurants.
The 30 Best Restaurants contest brings together a large circle of gastronomy experts. This includes Lithuanian and foreign chefs working in Lithuania, restaurant owners, bloggers and food critics, sommeliers, and other experts invited to participate in the activities planned by the Good Food Academy.
“The 30 Best Restaurants project not only brings together gastronomy professionals and finds culinary gems across the country, it also aims to establish itself as a high quality, reliable and creative guide for all lovers of good food,” says the President of the Lithuanian Hotel and Restaurant Association and the Chairwoman of the Project Council Evalda Šiškauskienė. Similar best restaurant contests are held around the world, and some countries use these to develop their own restaurant ratings.
Quality of food and its presentation are the main considerations experts will use to build the list of best Lithuanian restaurants. Academy members evaluate the originality of the dishes, quality and compatibility of flavours, creativity, and overall value. Of course, potential winners must also complement their food with the highest quality of service and warm and inviting restaurant environments to be considered among the best of the best.
According to the editor of the magazine “Geras Skonis” and Project Council member Rasa Ščeponienė, “As many as 22 new restaurants not seen in last year’s contest are on the list this year. The dynamics of the emergence of new restaurants delights both visitors and voters. This will make for a very intriguing final voting process. Indeed, it is difficult to predict who will top the list as this year’s best.”
“Lately, the revival of gastronomy in Lithuania is progressing rather quickly. This is confirmed by the many new restaurants shortlisted in this year’s contest. It is important to Švyturys that the pool of talented chefs creating in Lithuania with passion and enthusiasm continues to grow. We believe that this also contributes to the improvement of beer culture,” says Andrius Bagdzevičius, the Brand Manager of Švyturys, one of the founding members of the 30 Best Restaurants Project.
The finals of the 2017 30 Best Restaurants project will take place in the middle of June.
