Vilnius International Film Festival (Vilnius IFF), Kino Pavasaris, is the biggest and most important cinema event in Lithuania. Over more than 20 years, the festival has become a highly attended cultural phenomenon. The festival offers audiences a chance to see renowned and award-winning movies from various film festivals around the world.
12-13 of April
Mados Infekcija began in 1999. Held once a year (in spring), the programme involves catwalk shows, exhibitions, seminars, show-rooms and free events for fashion devotees.
The festival is distinguished for its conceptuality. The aim of the event is not to show and create trends or to be a fashion dictator, but to help people to develop an individual style and attitude towards fashion and to apply this knowledge in their everyday life. Bohemian spirit, extraordinary and unconventional fashion shows, the fusion of music, video, photography and other fields of art make the festival a unique 2-day experience of fashion which takes place in the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius. Mados Infekcija breaks traditional boundaries of fashion weeks as it is open to everybody and aims to spread knowledge about fashion among ordinary people.
23-27 of April
Since 1992, the Lithuanian Composers’ Union has organised the “Jauna muzika” festival which presents the newest music art awards and projects. From 2002, “Jauna muzika” has paid special attention to electronic and electro-acoustic music and aims to present novelties in this sphere to Lithuanian audiences of all ages. Today this festival is the biggest festival of electronic and electro-acoustic music in Lithuania and the Baltic states.
27-28 of April
Held since 2015, Open House Vilnius is an open architecture weekend in Vilnius.
The main purpose of the event is to create an opportunity for everyone to take an interest in architecture and to learn more about it.
During the open weekend, buildings in Vilnius that are of remarkable architectural quality and have special significance to the city and its communities are opened to the public. The programme includes tours of buildings guided by volunteers, the building architects and “residents”.
Open House Vilnius is organised by the voluntary, non-governmental and not for profit public institution “Architektūros fondas”.
2-12 of May
During the 20 years of its existence the International Contemporary Dance Festival “New Baltic Dance” has grown into one of the main and most prestigious dance festivals in the Baltic Sea region. It is organized by the Lithuanian Dance Information Centre and Vilnius Festivals. Held every year in May, it takes place at different venues in Vilnius.
The wine exhibition “Vyno dienos” – is the biggest wine and spirits event in the Nordics, where professionals meet other professionals and final consumers. Wine and spirits producers, international importers, gourmet representatives, companies that make glass and wine accessories come together for two days to enjoy the company and attention of more than 3,800 visitors that are interested in the products. This is the right time, the right place and right target audience (sommeliers, wine importers, restaurateurs, hoteliers, fine wine lovers, wine, food and life journalists etc.) for professional wine lecturers, experts and writers to spread the most up-to-date information about wine and to guide various tastings on the different subjects.
6-12 of May
DESIGN WEEK LITHUANIA is an annual event dedicated to the synthesis of insightful solutions, original ideas and professional performance while highlighting the value of good design. All the latest artwork, concepts and products are welcome to join the festival in various forms. In 2019 the festival will take place on May 6-12 in six cities of Lithuania – Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Telšiai and Anykščiai.
10-12 of May
This festival has been taking place in Vilnius since 1973 and it is one of the very few authentic folk music festivals in Europe.
During the 46 years of its existence, the festival has gained a great number of loyal admirers and formed its own image as an ethnic culture festival. This festival is also a preparation stage for Lithuanian song festivals.
The festival events and participants, which present the most valuable folk compositions, promote great interest in Lithuania‘s traditional culture, broaden collaboration between local and international folklorists, and lead to a more professional worldwide presentation of Lithuanian ethnic culture, and thus impact the development of cultural tourism.
18 of May
Street Music Day – traditionally organized on the third Saturday of May is a day when professional musicians and amateurs come out to perform in Vilnius’ streets, courtyards and squares. They play rock, classical music, jazz, avant-garde, folklore, African rhythms, give various music-related performances with various musical instruments (even heaters). Other street art movements also join the music. The Street Music Day team has a big dream to make it a celebration of music, street culture, community and creative freedom.
26 of May
It is the biggest spring running event in Lithuania during which professional sportsmen, amateurs and even little runners test their power and strength. It is a festival of running, uniting all the promoters of an active life.
30 of May – 2 of June
Four days of art and discoveries with artists from around the globe. The international contemporary art fair, ArtVilnius’19, returns to the LITEXPO exhibition centre for the tenth time. The biggest visual arts event in the Baltics offers a broad programme: hundreds of artists, thousands of fascinating artworks, encounters with stars of the art world, engaging discussions and a special educational programme.
ArtVilnius’19 is an exclusive opportunity to see and purchase art from around the world, to be inspired and to meet accomplished artists in person.
1-3 of March
St. Casimir’s Fair is the biggest ethnocultural event in Lithuania and the Baltic region. In 2019 the fair will take place in Vilnius for the 416th time. The fair is traditionally held in the city’s markets and streets on the Sunday nearest to March 4 (Feast of St. Casimir), the anniversary of Saint Casimir’s death.
St. Casimir’s Fair is a regionally unique ethnocultural event dedicated to craftsmanship. Every year it brings together hundreds of local traditional handicraft artists who sell handmade items such as housewares, ceramics, knitwear, toys, woodenware and traditional Lithuanian dishes, food products and drinks.
You can find many unique things made, created and/or produced according to Lithuanian cultural traditions. The most traditional purchases from St. Casimir’s Fair are ring-shaped or heart-shaped sweet rolls called Riestainis and multicoloured arrangements of dried flowers called Verba.
In addition, St. Casimir’s Fair is a cultural event that fills Vilnius Old Town with folk music, dancing and even theatre performances. The fair usually opens with a special procession dedicated to Saint Casimir. In 2019 the fair will take place in Vilnius on March 1–3.

The irate merry Carnival in Vilnius invites city dwellers and city guests On Tauras hill to be angry, to be loud and to drive the cold winter away by whatever means possible.
Carnival is a holiday for all the community. This holiday has always been a perfect occasion not only to romp about and joke merrily, but also to mock members of the community in a friendly way, to give publicity to real everyday matters with humour, with nobody ever getting annoyed. So, we are waiting for devils, bears, goats, doctors, beggars, strangers and many other people in disguise to frolic about merrily. Participants will be entertained by numerous greasy, warm pancakes and other specialties, furious traditional merriments for children and adults, concerts, dances and jokes.
11 of March
The Act of Re-establishment of the State of Lithuania was signed on 11 March 1990. On 11 March each year, the victims of the fight for Lithuanian independence are honoured, the ceremony of hoisting the state flag takes place in Nepriklausomybės Sq., with brass band parades, performances by various groups, and concerts.
13-16 of March
Like every year, in spring, the International Baltic Jewellery Show “Amber Trip” will invite everyone to Vilnius, the jewellery capital of the Baltic states.
The only jewellery event in the Baltic states is attended by professional jewellers and designers, as well as manufacturers of technological equipment and devices. The event includes the presentation of the latest technologies in the jewellery industry, trends in the amber jewellery and crafts market, and the latest works of professional jewellers around the world. Around 60 percent of the exhibition is devoted to jewellery and around 40 percent –to amber.
