Even though Vilnius is still covered in a blanket of snow, there are multiple signs that spring is just around the corner. The days are getting longer, bird songs can be heard in the morning, and the town is looking forward to some events that are true spring classics:
2-4 March, 2018 Vilnius’ biggest and oldest fair brings the city to life after a long and cold winter. Aside from having the chance to buy locally made food products, you’ll also see performances of national song and dance and get to dine right on Gediminas Avenue, where restaurants from all over the country will have their stalls. Find out more about St-Casimir’s Fair here.
Where: The main streets of Vilnius Old Town and Centre, don’t worry it’s impossible to miss it
15-29 March, 2018 In its 23rd year running, Kino Pavasaris will bring over 200 films to the silver screens of Vilnius and other Lithuanian towns, once again becoming the country’s biggest film festival. Be sure to book tickets early, just like Vilnius locals do, as they tend to vanish fast. Read more about the Vilnius International Film Festival here.
Where: Forum Cinemas Vingis, Forum Cinemas Akropolis & Pasaka.
1 April, 2018 Vilnius’ Užupis district is known for its community of artists who one day decided to proclaim independence. The whole idea was humorous in nature, so what better day to celebrate independence than April Fool’s Day? Drop by – the biggest party is likely to take place at the square by the Angel of Užupis.
5-6 May, 2018 Loftas will hold its seasonal market bringing designers from Lithuania and beyond together in one place. For two days, the venues will be the prime spot to find inspiration for your wardrobe, your home and your thoughts. Entrance is free, so pay a visit, even if just for a little inspiration.
When: 11 AM – 19 PM, 5-6 May
19 May, 2018 For one special day every year, Lithuanian musicians and bands take to the streets to give free performances to everyone who wants to listen. This year, Street Music Day falls on Saturday, 19 May. Fingers crossed for good weather, but rest assured – music will fill the streets even if it’s raining. Find out more and follow the event here.
