All year round in Vilnius those fond of active leisure will find something to do. In winter there is skating on ice rinks, even skiing on special slopes. In spring, summer and autumn one can go cycling around Vilnius and its picturesque environs, or one can go horseback riding at the equine stud farms of Riešė, Belmontas or Zujūnai. More experienced equestrians can hire horses for riding around the outskirts of Vilnius. There are several golf courses in the vicinity of Vilnius. Tennis players can visit the outdoor tennis courts in their fine setting near Gediminas’ Hill.

 

The Vilnius go-cart track at Plytinė operates in all seasons, and it is always fun to go there with some good friends to race each other. Those who prefer to do battle with paintballs will not be disappointed by the local ‘battlefields’ installed in big old abandoned buildings around Vilnius or in the forests near the city. If extreme sport is your thing, try your hand at mastering the strong current and sharp bends of the Vilnelė, or a picturesque flight over Vilnius in the basket of a hot air balloon.

It would be hard to arrive in Vilnius on a day when not much is happening. And even harder to find yourself in Vilnius with nothing to do. Vilnius is regularly visited by top performers in the classical music and jazz fields, and also by ‘rising stars’ of popular music. One after the other we see a line-up of events in music, theatre, cinema, and dance. There are festivals, city events, opening nights of theatrical performances, sporting competitions. Once you find out about an event that interests you, don’t miss it! Vilnius can truly be called the entertainment centre of Lithuania. Not least of all because it is home to the country’s largest concentration of concert halls, sports arenas, theatres, cinemas, bars, clubs, and casinos.

 

Walks in Vilnius parks or cakes and ice cream in an Old Town café are not the only family entertainment in the city. Children play happily on the wooden structures specially provided in Sereikiškių Park, they climb on the Pasakų (Fairy-Tale) Park sculptures and structures and they enjoy a visit to the small zoo at Vingio Park, where they can also go for a ride on the funfair attractions. At the Ice Palace or the Akropolis Shopping Centre there are ice skating rinks that operate year round. For many children – and some adults too! – this is their first time on ice skates.

 

The special occasions and festivals of Vilnius offer Vilnius families many and varied opportunities for entertainment all year round. For the children there are special concerts, appearances by clowns and masked characters from story-books, strings of honey cake and fireworks. You just need to keep track of the calendar of city events and festivals and choose something together. In autumn Vilnius is usually visited by one or more circuses; these are attended by the adults just as eagerly as by the children.
